How the calculator works

The calculator adds up your engagements, which are likes, reposts, replies, and bookmarks, then divides that total by your impressions and turns it into a percentage. Written as a formula, that is engagements divided by impressions, multiplied by 100.

Impressions are the number of times your post appeared on a screen. Because the result is based on impressions rather than follower count, it shows how well a post landed with the people who actually saw it, not just how large your following is.

What counts as a good engagement rate

There is no single perfect number, but these ranges are a useful guide on X:

  • Below 1 percent: the post did not connect. Look again at the hook and the payoff.
  • 1 percent to 3 percent: a healthy, normal range for most accounts.
  • Above 3 percent: strong. Your audience is paying close attention.

Smaller accounts often post higher rates than large ones, because an early, loyal audience tends to engage more per impression.

How to improve your engagement rate

Lead with a clear hook in the first line, keep to one idea per post, and end with something people can reply to or save. Posting when your audience is active also lifts the rate, because more of the right people see the post early while it is still fresh.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate engagement rate on X?
Add up all of your engagements, which are likes, reposts, replies, and bookmarks, then divide that number by your impressions and multiply by 100. The result is your engagement rate as a percentage.
What is a good engagement rate on X?
A good engagement rate on X is usually between 1 percent and 3 percent. Above 3 percent is strong, and smaller accounts with loyal followers often see higher numbers than large accounts.
Should I divide by impressions or followers?
Dividing by impressions tells you how compelling a post was to the people who actually saw it. Dividing by followers tells you how much of your audience you reached. Impressions give the more accurate read on a single post.
Do bookmarks count as engagement?
Yes. Bookmarks are one of the strongest signals on X because they mean someone found the post valuable enough to save. This calculator includes them in the engagement total.
Where do I find my impressions on X?
Open any of your posts and tap the analytics icon, or open the analytics tab in your profile. Impressions are the number of times the post was seen.
Why does my engagement rate drop as I grow?
As your reach grows, your posts are shown to more casual followers and people outside your core audience, who engage less per impression. A gently falling rate at larger scale is normal and not a sign of decline.
