The calculator adds up your engagements, which are likes, reposts, replies, and bookmarks, then divides that total by your impressions and turns it into a percentage. Written as a formula, that is engagements divided by impressions, multiplied by 100.
Impressions are the number of times your post appeared on a screen. Because the result is based on impressions rather than follower count, it shows how well a post landed with the people who actually saw it, not just how large your following is.
What counts as a good engagement rate
There is no single perfect number, but these ranges are a useful guide on X:
- Below 1 percent: the post did not connect. Look again at the hook and the payoff.
- 1 percent to 3 percent: a healthy, normal range for most accounts.
- Above 3 percent: strong. Your audience is paying close attention.
Smaller accounts often post higher rates than large ones, because an early, loyal audience tends to engage more per impression.
