Banner design rules that hold up
- Export at exactly 1584 x 396. Smaller uploads get stretched and go soft.
- Keep all text right of the 20 percent mark so the profile photo never covers it.
- Check it on your phone after uploading; mobile trims the left and right edges.
- One message per banner: what you do or one proof point, not a collage.
Frequently asked questions
- What size should a LinkedIn banner be?
- The recommended LinkedIn banner (background photo) size is 1584 x 396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio. LinkedIn accepts JPG and PNG up to 8 MB. Upload at exactly this size to avoid blurry scaling.
- Why does my LinkedIn banner look cut off?
- Your profile photo overlaps the bottom-left of the banner on desktop, and mobile crops the left and right edges. Keep text and logos in the upper-right two-thirds of the image and they will survive both crops.
- Is the company page banner the same size?
- No. Company page covers are 1128 x 191 pixels, a much shorter strip than the 1584 x 396 personal banner. Design them separately rather than reusing one image.
- What size should LinkedIn post images be?
- Square 1200 x 1200 or portrait 1200 x 1500 images take up the most feed space. Landscape 1200 x 627 works for link previews. Avoid very wide images; they render small in the feed.
