What X reads from your page
X builds a card from a few tags in the page's head. When a twitter: tag is missing it falls back to the Open Graph one, so most sites only need their og: tags plus twitter:card.

Frequently asked questions
Does X still have a card validator?
Not one that previews cards. X removed the preview from its Card Validator in 2022, so the only built-in check is to start writing a post with the link. This tool fetches the page the way X's crawler does and shows the card it will build.
Why is my Twitter card not showing?
Usually one of four things: no og:image or twitter:image, an image X cannot load (private, over 5 MB, or SVG), an image under the minimum size, or a page that blocks X's crawler. The checks name which one. X also caches cards, so links you already posted can take a while to update.
What image size should a Twitter card use?
1200 by 630 pixels works everywhere. Large cards need at least 300 by 157 pixels in a 2:1 shape, small cards at least 144 by 144 in a square, and X skips images over 5 MB. JPG, PNG, WEBP and GIF work; SVG does not.
Does X read Open Graph tags?
Yes. When a twitter: tag is missing, X uses the matching og: tag for the title, description and image. You only need twitter:card to choose the layout, and twitter:site to credit your account.
How do I refresh a card after fixing the tags?
X caches a link's card for a while. If the old card still shows after you fix the tags, share the link with a harmless query string such as ?v=2: X treats it as a new page and reads the tags fresh.
Is this Twitter card validator free?
